The rowboat is the Chaozhou tea bowl we have been looking for: small, precise, without the size or weight to intimidate.

In Chaozhou, where gongfu cha is thickest, everyone and their uncle brew tea all day, every day.  There is no end to the styles, sizes, and shapes of tea boats they use.  The most common is a large circular clay tea boat like this, but with a much deeper basin and a larger plate.

This smaller tea boat is way less cumbersome, but only fits a single teapot.  While the other trays can fit the whole tea session, pot, cups and all, we found them less practical for casual tea drinkers that don’t have a permanent tea table setup.

The drainage cut outs are made in the traditional shape of an ancient Chinese coin to encourage wealth while using this tray.

We always will grab a pot cushion to use with this tray as we just don’t like the sound of clay on clay every time we set down the teapot.
