Technical Nerdy Stuff
This one, the Orchid Fragrance, is the first of a trio we’re releasing this year.
While Phoenix oolongs are generally less known than their Taiwanese or Wuyi cousins,
they’ve quietly become some of our favorite teas to drink in the early fall months.
They have that balance of floral and mineral — soft enough to unwind with, but still bright enough to remind you you’re alive.
If you’ve ever had a cheaper roasted oolong that left you feeling off...
heavy in the stomach or foggy in the head...
you’re not alone.
We feel like a lot of lower priced teas(in the 10–25¢ per gram range) just aren’t roasted with the same care, and no matter how nice they taste or smell,
they eventually find their way to the back of the tea shelf.
That’s why we’re so excited about these teas.
Fleur may not go as deep as the $1/gram dancongs, but it doesn’t need to.
It’s clean, balanced, and surprisingly refined for its price — an easy daily drinker and the perfect entry point for exploring Phoenix oolongs.
Roasted, smooth-bodied, and full of that soft floral aroma that dancong lovers chase — elegant, accessible, and quietly captivating.

I was a bit disappointed for this one. I had to toss my first cup because I just couldn't finish it. It was a touch too bitter for how I want my oolong, drying, and the good notes weren't shining through enough. It was also making me nauseous, which I thought was funny due to the description... The coin didn't break up well for an oolong which made the cup slightly muddy, something I'd expect for bamboo pressed puer or smaller, cut leaves. I can see this doing a lot better as a loose leaf tea. I could taste some floral notes, so I think flash steeps at a lower temp would be best for this tea. So, my next cup I did lower temp with flash steeps... and I still didn't really care for it. Bitterness and astringency was less, but still a tad noticeable and the positive notes didn't shine through like they should.
This is a simple review of a simply wonderful oolong tea. Simply will not disappoint! Simple yet elegant.
