The Tie Guan Yin, roughly translated to Iron Goddess of Mercy, is a reference to Guanyin, the Chinese counterpoint to Avalokiteshvara the Boddhisattva of infinite compassion. The story relates to an old iron statue of Guanyin that a farmer in famine prayed to, the next day he found a tea bush growing at her feet, and from that bush came the Tie Guan Yin tea cultivar famous throughout China, Taiwan, and the world.
This tea is made with a base of traditional Tie Guan Yin that undergoes a natural scenting process by being mixed with fresh jasmine flowers and let to mingle overnight. The traditioinal jasmine scenting process is famous in nearby Fuzhou, and creates a tea that has a Jasmine fragrance without any additives or visible jasmine flowers. We love the freshness of this tea, and it is one of our only truly floral scented teas.
Each pack comes with 7g of tea for a perfect session or two mini sessions gongfu style.
