One of the more out-there teas for new tea drinkers, shou pu'er, or cooked pu'er tastes impossibly earthy.
It brews up black as night and has some sweet savory depths to it. Despite its strangeness, this tea doesn’t tend toward bitterness and brews up sweet and easy with very little effort, making it a great introduction to tea.
While this is medium fermented, instead of fermented into the abyss, it still reminds us of sitting in a forest after the rain.

So up until 10 minutes ago, I never tried a Pureh tea that I didn't think wasn't nasty. I drink red tea primarily and every once in a while, someone will include a pureh sample in an order and occasionally I brew it up and try it. I have never liked one...until now. TT included a sample of this tea in my last order, so I tried it and really liked it. I thought this brief affair would end around the third or forth infusion, but no. Here I sit, brewing up tea as dark as night on the 8th infusion and I still really like it. Subtle, smooth, sweet, lovely. I'm not sure if it is good for sales to get the endorsement of a red tea drinker, but here we are. I just ordered a cake.
Received a sample ball of this in my order, thanks TT!
This was very drinkable at all stages which I say as someone who isn’t keen on shou pu’erh.
The earthy taste was there without being obnoxious. First steep was very woody and had a taste of chestnut.
Second gave way to a slight hint of cream/sweetness.
Third almost had a minty bit to it.
Subsequent steeps were all smooth with a slight sweet and nutty flavor.
I went 7 rounds with this one ball and I suspect it could’ve gone another 4 or so.
