This was a piece we needed to have in hand and use to really understand its true beauty.Not only is it translucent when brewing tea, but handling the soft jade-like texture of the porcelain is a pleasure in itself.
This is an incredible example of some of the porcelain that put Dehua on the map.When compared to the more famous bone porcelain of Jingdezhen, Dehua’s Mutton Fat and Ice Jade teaware is a love of the porcelain itself.
The piece is light, impeccably crafted, and doesn’t have a lot of frills to distract from the main event, the translucent nature of this teaware.The edges of the bowl’s rim and the lid’s edge can be a little sharp, but that reminds us of the ice from whence it takes its name.
If you don’t have a simple translucent gaiwan yet, this is a fantastic introduction into the style.
