When people talk of roasted oolong, they're usually speaking of Wuyi Yancha, or the Rocke Teas from the Wuyi Mountains in northern Fujian. These teas have defined the style since the Ming dynasty about 500 years ago, and have changed Chinese tea culture in deep and meaningful ways. The advent of gaiwans as brewing vessels, the proto-gongfu tea ceremony, and the small cups so often associated with Chinese tea can all claim some kind of orign in the Wuyi mountains.
The Purple Robe is a reference to the style's true name: Big Red Robe, which is a blend of several tea cultivars all trying to reach a certain flavor profile. It is both fragrant and rich creating a powerfully engaging tea session. When comparing this tea to other Wuyi Yancha, it is noticeably less heavily roasted and much more floral fragrant. While these teas pack a punch, they tend to have fewer brews than a puer tea, so expect 6 to 8 infusions.
Each pack comes with over 6g of tea for a perfect session or two mini sessions gongfu style.
