Collection: Sanguine Teapots

Mark Mohler from Sanguine Teapots is a close friend when looking at new teapots, examining quality, bouncing ideas off, and figuring out fact from fiction.

In many ways his process is the exact opposite of Chinese pottery which provides a perfect foil for deeper conversations and understanding when talking about teaware.

Instead of using industrial clays that are simpler to fire, he works with clays that are wild and experiments with them until he works them to a stable clay that can be fired for teaware.

The one that he has been working with the longest and is most well known for is Lizella clay which is local to his home state of Georgia.

When fired in his gas kiln in becomes a lustrous purple that milds out into a subtle matte rainbow over time.

While we have been friends for several years this will be the first year that we are able to share his work.

Our first few collaboration plans are pretty special including a set of purple glaze teaware exclusively at Tao Teaware and an attempt to use Chaozhou clay and fire it in his gas kiln with his classic high handled, teardrop spout pots... to name a few.
